INDIANAPOLIS — Sophomore hitter
Sarah Petrbok had 17 kills to help the Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team outlast Northern Michigan, 25-19, 22-25, 18-25, 26-24, 15-6 during action at the UIndy Invitational on Friday. The win gave MSUM a split on the day after the Dragons lost to Saginaw Valley State, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-13.
The Dragons are now 5-1 on the year.
Petrbok added 18 digs for MSUM in the win over Northern Michigan. The Dragons rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take the win.
Sophomore hitter
Amanda Carlson and freshmen middle blocker
Bridget Witzmann each added 12 kills while senior middle blocker
Kaylyn Jenkins had 11. Senior defensive specialist
Taylor Thorson had 18 digs while freshman setter
Amber Bretwisch had 29. Sophomore setter
Becca Koehn added 22 assists. Jenkins had two solo blocks and three assists.
MSUM was down 2-1 in the match but won a thrilling fourth set 26-24 and then took control with a 15-6 win in the final set. In the final set, MSUM hit .600 with no errors while NMU hit .000.
Earlier in the day, in the loss to Saginaw, Jenkins and Petrbok led MSUM with 10 kills each while Witzmann had nine.
Bretwisch had 26 set assists and 11 digs while senior Thorson had 17 digs.
Sophomore hitter
Elise Bakke had six block assists while Jenkins had five and Bretwisch four.
MSUM hit just .082 for the match with 25 errors in 146 attempts while Saginaw Valley hit .168 with 29 errors in 167 attempts.
The Dragons wrap up non conference play on Saturday with matches against Gannon (8 a.m. Central) and Illinois-Springfield (1 p.m.) in Indianapolis.
