MOORHEAD, Minn. – Despite a goal from freshman forward
Mckenzie Ickert in the second half, the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team fell to Southwest Minnesota State, 2-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday at MSUM's Soccer Field.
MSUM fell to 3-2-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the NSIC while SMSU improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.
"We put forth a winning effort and battled to the end," MSUM head coach
Christie Kopietz said.
SMSU scored two first-half goals to take a 2-1 lead. Ickert scored her second goal of 2019 at the 79:59 mark to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Dragons were unable to tie the game in the closing minutes.Sophomore defender

Freshman
Kate Weigum had two shots on goal for MSUM, which outshot the Mustangs 13-8, including 7-1 in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kayleigh Sedlacek had five saves in the loss for MSUM.
MSUM is at Upper Iowa on Friday, Oct. 4.
