EDINBORO, Pa. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team picked up two more wins at the Rebich Investments tournament on Saturday in Edinboro, Pa. MSUM beat Glenville State, 25-9, 21-25, 25-13, 25-16 and swept Lock Haven, 25-16, 25-18, 25-16.
MSUM is now 4-0 on the season in nonconference play.
In the win over Glenville State, freshman
Amber Bretwisch had 32 set assists while senior defensive specialist
Taylor Thorson had 10 digs.
Leading the offense was senior middle blocker
Kaylyn Jenkins who had 14 kills; she also had one solo block and three block assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Sarah Petrbok and freshman outside hitter
Bridget Witzmann had 11 kills each. Petrbok and Jenkins also had four service aces each.
MSUM hit a blistering .588 in the opening set to win handily, 25-9. Jenkins was dominant in the first set with five kills and a .667 hitting percentage.
Glenville State came back to win the second set, but MSUM re-established its dominance in the third set with a 25-13 win. The Dragons hit .538 in the third set, thanks to five kills from Witzmann. Jenkins had five more kills in the fourth set as MSUM cruised to a 25-16 win and finishing the match off in four sets.
The Dragons made quick work of Lock Haven, thanks to 10 kills from Witzmann and eight each from Petrbok and Jenkins. Petrbok had 15 digs while Thorson had 14. Bretwisch had 24 set assists. Witzmann led with four block assists.
MSUM's defense was stout, holding Lock Haven to a .016 hitting percentage.
Petrbok and Witzmann had four kills each in the first set to lead the Dragons to a 25-16 win. Witzmann added four more kills in the second set as MSUM won 25-18. Jenkins had three kills in the final set as MSUM cruised to a 25-16 win.
The Dragons will compete at the UIndy Invitational in Indianapolis on Sept. 13-14.
