MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team completed the weekend sweep on Saturday night. A balanced scoring attack helped the Dragons take down Concordia-St. Paul 85-72 at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.

The Dragons improve to 14-8 overall and 10-6 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Golden Bears fall to 6-14 overall and 4-12 in the NSIC.

MSUM shot 47.5 percent (29-of-61) from the field and 28 percent (7-of-25) from three compared to 46.7 percent (28-of-60) from the field and 37 percent (10-of-27) from beyond the arc for CSP.

Sophomore guard Gavin Baumgartner led the offense with 29 points and also added five rebounds. Senior guard Johnny Beeninga scored seven points and dished out a career high seven assists to lead the Dragons. Freshman forward Dane Zimmer scored 12 points. Bench production was a factor in the game for the Dragons. Sophomore guard Bryce Irsfeld scored 14 points, while junior forward Joe Sevlie scored 13 points along with six rebounds.

The first half was a back and forth affair. The first half saw nine lead changes and four ties. The Golden Bears opened with a 9-3 lead, which marked their largest lead of the game. The Dragons were able to battle for a five-point lead with 13:38 remaining in the half. Going into halftime, CSP was able to regain the lead at 36-34. The Dragons shot 36.4 percent (12-of-33) from the field and 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from three.

In the second half, MSUM would find its groove from beyond the arc, shooting 50 percent (5-of-10). From the field, the Dragons shot 60.7 percent (17-of-28). A Baumgartner three with 18:06 remaining gave the Dragons the lead and they never looked back. MSUM did not allow the Golden Bears to regain control, and pushed the lead to double digits with 6:33 remaining in the game. The Dragons saw their largest lead of the game come with 0:57 on the clock when they led 83-69 thanks to a Sevlie free-throw.

The Dragons will now play their next four games on the road. MSUM will take on Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn., on Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The next day, the Dragons travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., to take on the University of Sioux Falls at 5:30 p.m.

MSUM will not return home until Feb. 21 for their matchup with Minot State.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: Entering today's game, only Harrison Cleary of Minnesota Crookston, who became the NSIC's all-time points scorer in history, and the Dragon's Bryce Irsfeld were above the 90 percent free throw plateau. Cleary came into today's action at .921, Irsfeld was at .904.
