BROOKINGS, S.D. — Sophomore
Shyrone Kemp set a new school record in the triple jump to lead the way for the Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams Saturday at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic in Brookings, S.D.
Kemp topped Hall of Famer Cal Baker's previous school record of 48-9 that was set in 1977 with a jump of 49-9 1/4. That jump is fifth-best in the nation and the best in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference by four feet. Kemp's record-setting performance came on his first attempt.
It's the second time in as many weeks that a school record has fallen for MSUM as sophomore
Chris Cook set a new school record in the high jump (7-0 1/2) at the Bison Open.
MSUM's 4x400 relay was second in 3:22.86. That consisted of sophomore
Ty Dawkins, freshman
Connor Lehr, freshman
Kendrick Major and junior
Clay Jackson. That is the third-fastest time in the NSIC this season.
Senior
Jonas Matzen tied for sixth in the long jump with an effort of 21-9 1/4 while senior
Zach Sweep tied for seventh in the high jump in the 6-4 3/4.
For the Dragon women, freshman
Lakyla Yazzie was fourth in the 1,000 meters in 3:08.35.
Sophomore
Caitlin Pritchett tied for sixth in the high jump at 5-1 3/4. Sophomore
Anna Steadland was seventh iin the 200 in 25.71.
Next on the schedule for MSUM is the UND Tune-Up Meet on Feb. 22 in Grand Forks, N.D.
