NSIC Tournament Bracket
The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team opens play in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/Sanford Health tournament on Wednesday at Winona State. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m. at McCown Gymnasium in Winona, Minn.
MSUM is 17-12 on the year while Winona State is 16-10.
The Dragons are 17-20 all-time in the tournament reaching and losing in the finals twice to Concordia St. Paul in 2005 and 2007. They are the only team to qualify for the NSIC tournament in all years of its existence.
It will be the second meeting of the season for MSUM and Winona. On Jan. 3, 2020 the two teams met in Moorhead. MSUM led by nine points with 3:10 left but the Warriors scored the final nine points of regulation to tie the game at 53-53, sending the contest to overtime.
The Warriors built a five-point lead in overtime on their way to the 65-63 win. Emma Fee led Winona State with 27 points while senior forward
Megan Hintz led MSUM with 14 points.
MSUM leads the all-time series with Winona State 50-30.
The Dragons split at home over the weekend, beating Minot State 78-50 before losing to Mary, 69-67.
Hintz leads MSUM at 15.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while sophomore forward
Peyton Boom averages 10.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Junior guard
Sarah Jacobson averages 8.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard
Natalie Steichen averages 3.7 assists per contest.
MSUM is outrebounding its opponents 43.8-32.6 and outscoring its foes 69.0-60.0.
Karla Nelson is in her 20th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 369-207 at the school.
About Winona State
Winona State is 16-10 overall. The Warriors were swept on the road last weekend, losing to Concordia-St. Paul (66-47) and Minnesota State, Mankato (86-53).
Taylor Hustad leads the Warriors at 14.2 points per game while Allie Pickrain averages 11.3. Emma Fee averages 9.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Hustad leads at 7.9 rebounds per game while Emily Kieck averages 4.7 assists per game.
