LEBANON, Ill. — Despite hitting four home runs, the Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team was swept in a non conference doubleheader on Saturday, losing to McKendree 13-5 and 8-3 in Lebanon, Ill. The doubleheader was the season opener for the Dragons.
MSUM fell to 0-2 while McKendree improved to 6-6.

Kaiya Sundeen was 1-for-2 with a double and run scored for MSUM while junior outfielder
Elizabeth Johnson was 1-for-3.
The Dragons trailed 3-0 going into the fourth but rallied to take the lead. Junior
Ashley McCance walked and scored on McNeilly's two-run homer. Sophomore
Kaiya Sundeen also walked and scored on Weber's two-run blast.
McKendree came back to take a 5-4 lead but Gaber's solo homer in the fifth tied the game at 5-5. But a big seven-run fifth inning broke the game open for McKendree as the Bearcats went on to win 13-5.
Junior pitcher
Becky Berth took the loss, giving up nine runs, five earned, in four-plus innings. She struck out two and walked five. Freshman
Abby Muelrath pitched 1.1 innings and gave up four earned runs.
In Game 2, McNeilly was 2-for-3 with two RBI while senior third baseman
Emma Dummer was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Sundeen added a home run. Gaber, senior designated hitter
Madison Paige and Johnson added hits.
Sophomore
Anna Lang took the loss, giving up five earned runs in four innings. She walked two and struck out none. Berth gave up three earned runs in two innings of relief.
An RBI single from McNeilly in the first scored Dummer and gave MSUM a 1-0 lead. McKendree scored the next eight runs — keyed by a three-run homer and solo homer — to build an 8-1 lead.
McNeilly hit an RBI single in the sixth to score Dummer and Sundeen's solo homer in the seventh brought MSUM within 8-3 but the Dragons got no closer.
The Dragons will face Maryville for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday in St. Louis, Mo.
