MSUM Volleyball Swept by No. 10 Golden Bears in Road Contest

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team lost on the road at No. 10 Concordia-St. Paul, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday in St. Paul, Minn.
 
MSUM fell to 5-13 in the NSIC with the loss while Concordia-St. Paul improved to 14-4.
 
After struggling with offense at Minnesota State on Friday, the Dragons had success at the net, hitting .204 with 34 kills. CSP hit .241 with 47 kills.
 
Junior outside hitter Bridget Witzmann led MSUM with nine kills while freshman middle blocker Summer Salettel had eight kills. Junior outside hitter Amanda Carlson had six kills.
 
Freshman setter Kelly Klees had 14 assists while freshman Halle Erickson dished out nine.
 
Junior defensive specialist Morgan Cleveland had two service aces.
 
Sophomore defensive specialist Brooke Walthall had 15 digs while Klees had 10. Freshman middle blocker Abby Thompson had one solo block and two assists while Saletell had two assisted blocks.
 
MSUM fell behind 12-5 in the first set and never fully recovered, although the Dragons closed the gap to 19-16 on a Carlson kill. They got no closer and fell 25-18.
 
In the second set, the Dragons were down 24-17 but scored six points in a row – which included three kills from Witzmann and two from Salettel – to climb within 24-23. But CSP recorded a kill to finish off the set 25-23.
 
MSUM scored the first three points of the third set, all on CSP errors,  and the set was tied at 19-19 after a Carlson kill. But CSP scored the final six points to secure a 25-19 win.
 
MSUM is at home to conclude the 2021 season next weekend, starting Friday with nationally-ranked Winona State.
