BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's track and field team was picked to finish fifth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference indoor preseason coaches poll while the women were picked to finish 12th. The MSUM teams will open the season on Friday at the Dakota Classic in Fargo, N.D.
The NSIC poll was released on Thursday afternoon.
Juniors
Shyrone Kemp and
Ty Dawkins were listed as MSUM's men's athletes to watch.
Kemp was All-American in the triple jump indoors in 2021 and won NSIC indoor and outdoor titles in the triple jump last season. He set the school record in the triple jump indoors at the NSIC Championships last season (50-2.75).
Dawkins did not compete last season but has six career wins. He finished sixth in the 400 at the NSIC Indoor Championships in 2020 and was part of two relays that finished in the top five.
For the women, senior
Rachel Schumacher and sophomore
Payton Lane were listed as MSUM's athletes to watch.
Schumacher earned two All-NSIC honors in the high jump in 2021 and has five for her career.
Lane emerged as the Dragons' top runner in cross country this past fall and had a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 5K at the NSIC Championships a year ago.
MSUM will send jumpers and sprinters to Friday's meet at North Dakota State.
