VIRGINIA, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-0 win over Minnesota Crookston in action Sunday in Virginia, Minn.
MSUM improved to 2-0 overall and in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while the Golden Eagles fell to 0-3.
"We had another strong showing today, dropping just two games," MSUM head coach Jason Thiner said. "Jumping out to a 2-0 start is huge for our confidence as a team."
The Dragons swept all three doubles matches by 6-0 scores. Senior Lorissa Yuen and junior Rachel Nguyen beat Tasha Ackerman and Michelle Swyter 6-0 at No. 1 doubles while juniors Mikaela Griechen and Miranda Griechen beat Ashley Chomyn and Karli Renney 6-0 at No. 2 for MSUM.
Junior Emma Andersen and freshman Madison Bell beat Sam Hartung and Gabby Pinto 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Senior Julia Geske improved to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over UMC's Ackerman. Yuen, Nguyen, Miranda Griechen, Mikaela Griechen and Bell also won in singles.
MSUM hosts Winona State at 3 p.m. this Saturday in its home opener.
