BISMARCK, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team won five of six matches in a 5-2 win over UMary Saturday at the Capital Racquet and Fitness Center in Bismarck, N.D.
MSUM (7-0) has now won 16 matches in a row (including the 2020 season) and remains tied with Augustana for first place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. UMary fell to 5-2.
The Marauders won the doubles point by winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The Dragons did win at No. 1 doubles as seniors Julia Geske and Lorissa Yuen won 6-4 over UMary's Tasha Dembo and Yusra Hegy.
In singles, Mary won at No. 1 but the Dragons won all of the rest of the singles matches. Yuen topped Hegy, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 at No. 2 singles while senior Rachel Nguyen topped Jamie Stoppler, 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3.
"Rachel and Lorissa won two good, close matches to secure the win," MSUM head coach Jason Thiner said. "If those matches go against us, it's 4-3 the other way."
Junior Mikaela Griechen beat Mary's Kelsey Lajom, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4 singles for the Dragons while junior Miranda Griechen outlasted Kasi Askvig, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
Junior Emma Andersen beat Heidi Jacobson, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 for the Dragons.
MSUM is off until March 27-28 when it plays at Sioux Falls and Augustana.
