BISMARCK, N.D. — Despite winning the doubles team point, the school-record 16-match winning streak ended Saturday for the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team as the Dragons fell to the University of Sioux Falls, 5-2 in Bismarck, N.D.

MSUM fell to 7-1 overall and in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while USF improved to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the NSIC.

"We had a bit of a perfect storm with enough singles players not playing well to cost us the dual," MSUM head coach Jason Thiner said. "We played about as well in doubles as we have all season but couldn't carry that momentum into our singles matches."

MSUM won the doubles point as senior Julia Geske and junior Mikaela Griechen beat Megan Quandt and Joelle Thorfinnson, 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker) at No. 1, while senior Rachel Nguyen and junior Miranda Griechen beat Lexi Miller and Peyton Forney, 6-2, at the second doubles slot.

The Cougars won five of the six singles matches on their way to the win. The lone Dragon singles win came at No. 5 where junior Emma Andersen beat Rachel Klatt, 4-6, 6-0, 10-3. Mikaela Griechen lost a double three-set match at No. 3 for MSUM.

The Dragons will face Augustana at 9 a.m. on Sunday in Bismarck.
