MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team lost both games of a nonconference doubleheader to Jamestown on Wednesday. The Jimmies prevailed by scores of 4-1 and 9-1.
In the opener, a big difference was a three-run, two-out double Mariah Wick in the fourth inning.
Senior third baseman Emma Dummer had a double and RBI for MSUM while senior center fielder Elizabeth Johnson was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Junior catcher Jordie McNeilly, freshman shortstop Miah Hartvigsen and junior right fielder Ally Helgoe added hits.
Freshman Reece Dahl had a solid outing on the mound, giving up four earned runs in seven innings. She struck out one and walked one.
MSUM's lone run came in the fourth when Dummer ripped a double to score Johnson, who had singled.
In the second game, MSUM got two hits from McNeilly, who was 2-for-2. Dummer had a hit and an RBI while Johnson and junior first baseman Samantha Gjerde had hits.
Junior Anna Lang took the loss for MSUM, giving up eight runs (five earned) in four innings. Sophomore Ashtyn Jurging gave up one earned run in 0.2 innings while sophomore Kiley Washnieski got the final out.
The Dragons will have a scrimmage on Thursday and will resume play on Tuesday vs. Northern State. The twin bill is MSUM's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener.
