VERMILLION, S.D. — Strong performances from juniors Chris Cook and Shyrone Kemp led the way for the Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams at the South Dakota Challenge which wrapped up on Saturday in Vermillion, S.D.
Cook jumped an NCAA provisional of 6-11 3/4 to finish third in the high jump behind a pair of Division I competitors from South Dakota. As of Saturday that is the fifth-best jump in Division II, and isn't far from the automatic qualifying jump of 7-0 1/4. Cook's jump is best in the NSIC this season.
Kemp won the long jump at 23-8, topping Division I foes from South Dakota State and South Dakota.
Senior Clay Jackson was eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.06 while Ibrahim Oduong was eighth in the 400 in 49.72.
For the women, senior Rachel Schumacher tied for fourth in the high jump at 5-5 with junior Caitlin Pritchett tying for seventh at 5-3.
MSUM hosts the Dragon Twilight meet on Thursday beginning at noon. No fans will be allowed at the meet but all events will be live streamed at nsicnetwork.com/msumdragons
