MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament play on Friday vs. the University of Sioux Falls. The quarterfinal match will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Matche Point in Sioux Falls, S.D.
MSUM (8-3) is the No. 3 seed while USF (7-5) is the No. 6 seed. The winner will face the winner of the Minnesota Duluth/Winona State match at Saturday at 8 a.m. at Matche Point in Sioux Falls, which is the host site of the tournament.
It's the second meeting of the season between USF and MSUM. The Cougars won the first meeting, 5-2 on March 28 in Bismarck, N.D. The Dragons were without their regular No. 2 singles player, senior Lorissa Yuen, for that matchup.
Junior Mikaela Griechen leads MSUM with a 9-2 singles record while junior Emma Andersen is 8-2. Junior Miranda Griechen is 8-3. MSUM is 44-22 (.667) in singles this season.
Senior Julia Geske, who is 7-4 in singles, is 7-3 in doubles while Mikaela Griechen is 7-4.
Jason Thiner is in his first season as the MSUM head coach.

The Cougars are 7-5 overall and finished 7-4 in the NSIC. Joelle Thorfinnson is 7-3 in singles to lead USF while Rachel Klatt leads with a 7-3 doubles mark. Kevin Grebin is in his 20th season as the USF head coach.
