WINONA, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team dropped two games to No. 15 Winona State on Friday, losing 20-3 and 14-0 in Winona, Minn.
MSUM fell to 1-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while the Warriors improved to 15-2 overall and 4-0 in the league.
In Game 1, senior third baseman Emma Dummer was 2-for-3 with an RBI while junior catcher Jordie McNeilly was 2-for-3. Junior third baseman Samantha Gjerde was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Freshman shortstop Miah Harvigsen had a hit as well while sophomore Kiley Washnieski, senior Elizabeth Johnson and junior outfielder Shay Weber scored runs.
Freshman Reece Dahl took the loss for MSUM, allowing 15 runs, 14 earned, in three innings. She struck out two and walked seven. Washnieski gave up five runs in an inning of work.
In Game 2, Jordey Smith was 1-for-1 and also reached on a walk. Junior infielder Kaiya Sundeen had the other Dragon hit. Hartvigsen and Helgoe also reached on walks.
Anna Lang took the loss on the mound for MSUM, going four innings. She allowed 14 runs, nine of which were earned, striking out one while walking seven.
MSUM wraps up the weekend against Upper Iowa on Saturday. The doubleheader begins at noon in Fayette, Iowa.
