BISMARCK, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team was swept in a doubleheader by UMary on Wednesday in Bismarck, falling by scores of 5-4 and 8-2.
The Dragons had six hits in the opener and had the go-ahead run on second with one out in the seventh but couldn't get the big hit.
Junior second baseman Kaiya Sundeen was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while junior first baseman Samantha Gjerde was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Senior third baseman Emma Dummer was 1-for-4 with an RBI while junior left fielder Shay Weber was 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored. Senior center fielder Elizabeth Johnson was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Freshman Reece Dahl took the loss, giving up five earned runs in six innings. She struck out two and walked four.
In Game 2, Dummer was 2-for-3 with a double while junior catcher Jordie McNeilly was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Junior designated hitter Ally Helgoe was 1-for-3 with an RBI while Johnson and freshman shortstop Miah Hartvigsen had hits.
Junior Anna Lang took the loss for MSUM, giving up eight runs, six earned, in six innings. She struck out one and walked one.
MSUM continues on the road on Saturday with a doubleheader at No. 1 Augustana.
