WAYNE, Neb. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team was swept by Wayne State in a doubleheader on Sunday in Wayne, Neb. MSUM fell by scores of 4-1 and 7-5.
In the opener, junior Anna Lang took the loss for MSUM, giving up four earned runs in six innings. She walked one and struck out none.
Shay Weber was 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored for MSUM. She had a stolen base. Junior first baseman Samantha Gjerde was 1-for-2 with a walk. Junior catcher Jordie McNeilly and junior right fielder Jordey Smith were each 1-for-3 while senior center fielder Elizabeth Johnson had a hit.
MSUM committed three errors in the game while Wayne State committed two.
In Game 2 the Dragons took a 5-4 lead after the fifth but Wayne State scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead.
Weber was 3-for-3 with a run scored for MSUM while senior third baseman Emma Dummer was 2-for-4 with an RBI. McNeilly and junior designated hitter Ally Helgoe were each 1-for-4 with an RBI. Johnson scored two runs while Gjerde had an RBI.
Freshman Reece Dahl took the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) in 5.1 innings. She struck out one and walked four. Sophomore Kiley Washnieski pitched a scoreless 0.2 innings.
MSUM wraps up the home season next weekend with doubleheaders against Minnesota State-Mankato on Saturday and Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday. The Dragons' two seniors, Johnson and Dummer, will be honored at Senior Day on Sunday.
