DULUTH, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team dropped a doubleheader to Minnesota Duluth on Saturday in Duluth, Minn. MSUM fell by scores of 8-0 and 7-1.
The Dragons ended the year with a 9-34 overall mark and 7-22 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. UMD improved to 31-13 overall and 21-9 in the league.
MSUM managed two hits in the opener — a double by senior center fielder Elizabeth Johnson and a single by junior first baseman Samantha Gjerde.
Junior Anna Lang took the loss on the mound, giving up three earned runs in three innings. She walked three. Sophomore Kiley Washnieski allowed five runs, two earned, in 1.2 innings.
In the second game, Gjerde and junior right fielder Jordey Smith had two hits each. Senior third baseman Emma Dummer and junior second baseman Kaiya Sundeen added hits while junior left fielder Shay Weber had an RBI.
Freshman Reece Dahl took the loss for MSUM, giving up four earned runs in one inning. She walked four. Lang had a solid relief outing, giving up three earned run in five innings. She struck out two.
Weber's walked drove in a run in the seventh for MSUM.
It was the final games for Johnson and Dummer, two mainstays in the starting lineup during their Dragon career.
