MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team travels to Aberdeen, S.D., on Thursday to begin the regular season against Nebraska Kearney. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
MSUM and Nebraska Kearney battled to a 0-0 overtime tie last time the two teams faced off on Sept. 6, 2019.
The Dragons played two exhibition matches before the regular season. They won their first over Jamestown 2-1 and tied their second, 1-1 with Concordia.
The Dragons return six starters from the 2019 squad that went 6-8-4 overall and 4-7-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. That includes senior defenders Kaylee Parsons and Jennifer Wickman, each of whom started all 18 games that year. Junior Mckenzie Ickert also started all 18 games and led the team in goals (three), assists (three) and points (nine). Senior forward Anna Steadland had one goal, two assists and four points in 2019 after appearing in all 18 games.
Junior midfielder Callyn Johnson started 11 games in 2019.
Senior goalkeeper Kayleigh Sedlacek went 5-6-4 in goal in 2019 and had 108 saves.

Christie Kopietz is in her sixth season as the MSUM head coach.
About Nebraska Kearney
The Lopers were 2-9-7 overall and 1-5-5 in the MIAA in 2019. They were picked to finish in 12th in the MIAA preseason coaches poll. Senior forward Kassidy Kirsch and senior defender Megan Cook each started all 18 games for the Lopers in 2019 and return this season, while sophomore midfielder Ariella Mesa played in 17 games in 2019 and had a goal. Chloe Roberts is in her fourth season as the UNK head coach.
