MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team battled tough against No. 6 Concordia-St. Paul but fell to the Golden Bears, 25-23, 25-19, 25-18 in action Friday at Nemzek Fieldhouse.
MSUM fell to 1-11 overall and 1-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the loss while CSP improved to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the league.
Jasmine Mulvihill had 14 kills to lead CSP.
Junior outside hitter Amanda Carlson had nine kills and three service aces for MSUM. Freshman outside hitter Jadyn Feist had seven kills.
Freshman setter Halle Erickson had 19 assists while senior libero Sarah Petrbok had 13 digs. Junior middle blocker Elise Bakke had three block assists. Junior defensive specialist Brooke Walthall had seven digs.
MSUM led much of the first set, including 22-18 after a Carlson kill, but the Golden Bears scored the next six points to take a 24-22 lead. The Dragons' hopes of winning the set ended on a service error.
A block from Feist and freshman middle blocker Abby Thompson gave MSUM a 14-13 lead in the second frame but the Golden Bears scored eight of the next nine points to take a 21-15 lead on their way to a 25-19 win.
The Golden Bears took the lead midway through the third set and rolled to a 25-18 win.
MSUM hosts Minnesota State, Mankato at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
