The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team has two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference home contests ahead this week.
MSUM plays host to Winona State at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and then concludes the weekend against Upper Iowa at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
MSUM (5-7, 4-4 NSIC) opened the New Year with a 67-50 rout at Northern State on Jan. 2. The Dragons' next four games were cancelled because of Covid-19 protocols.
Junior forward Peyton Boom leads the team in points per game with 16.2, followed by freshman guard Natalie Jens with 11.1. The Dragons are averaging 58 points per game as a tream and allowing 62.3
Junior guard Natalie Steichen leads the team in rebounds per game (6.0) and assists per game with 4.2. Three Dragons share the team lead with 12 steals -- Jens, junior forward Shyanne Loiland and Steichen. Jens leads with 17 three-pointers made.
Karla Nelson is in her 22nd season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Â She is the second-longest tenured women's coach in the NSIC.
About Winona State
The Warriors are 7-9 on the season and 4-8 in the NSIC after losses to Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State last weekend. Senior Taylor Hustad leads the team in points per game with 11.6, followed closely by Senior Emily Kieck with 10.4. Emily Kieck leads the team in assists per game with 3.5. Taylor Hustad also leads the team in rebounds per game with 7.3. Scott Ballard is in his eighteenth season as head coach at Winona State University.

The Peacocks are 4-12 on the season and 1-9 in the NSIC after defeating St. Cloud and losing to Minnesota Duluth last weekend. Sophomore Lydia Haack and Sophomore Jessica Musgrave lead the team in points per game with 13.5. Lydia Haack also leads the team in assists per game with 4.1. Jessica Musgrave also leads the team in rebounds per game with 7.1. Nate Oakland is in his third season as head coach at Upper Iowa.
