ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team went on a 16-2 first-half run to build a double-digit lead, and went on to defeat Concordia-St. Paul, 85-66 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon in St. Paul, Minn.
MSUM improved to 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the NSIC with the win while CSP fell to 2-20 overall and 1-14 in the league.
Junior guard
Gavin Baumgartner had 17 points to place a balanced Dragon attack. Sophomore forward
Dane Zimmer had 15 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard
Lorenzo McGhee had 14 points. Baumgartner and Zimmer led with four assists each.
MSUM was leading 21-20 with 8:34 left in the first half before going on the 16-2 run to build a 37-22 lead. Zimmer had four points during that run, which saw five other Dragons score two points. MSUM took a 37-25 lead into halftime.
CSP closed to within 41-34 with 16:26 left in the contest but MSUM steadily pulled away from there, leading by as many as 20 points on its way to the win.
The Dragons shot 51.5 percent (34-of-66) while holding CSP to 45.5 percent (25-of-55). MSUM outrebounded the Golden Bears 39-25, including 14-5 on the offensive glass.
Junior forward
Jaden Stanley-Williams had nine points for MSUM while junior guard
Trever Kaiser had seven.
MSUM is back on the road next weekend, starting Friday at Minnesota Duluth.
