Dragon Women Conclude Weekend with 70-59 Defeat at CSP

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team concluded the weekend with a 70-59 loss at Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday afternoon.
 
MSUM fell to 6-10 overall and 5-7 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while CSP improved to 13-6 overall and 9-6 in the league.
 
Junior forward Peyton Boom had 16 points and eight rebounds for MSUM while sophomore guard Mariah McKeever added 13. Junoir guard Natalie Steichen had 11 points and four assists. Boom had four assists and added three steals. Junior forward Shyanne Loiland had four steals.
 
MSUM shot 36.1 percent (22-of-61) for the game compared to 45.5 percent (25-of-55) for the Golden Bears. CSP had a slight 37-35 edge in rebounds.
 
Boom hit a three with 2:13 left in the first quarter to put MSUM up 16-14. The lead stood at 30-26 after a Boom basket with 1:49 left in the first half, but CSP scored the final six points of the half to take a 32-30 lead into halftime.
 
Boom had 13 first-half points for MSUM while McKeever had six.  The Dragons shot 38.2 percent (13-of-34) in the opening half compared to 44.8 percent (13-of-29) for the Golden Bears.
 
The Dragons were down six in the third quarter but a Steichen three brought them to within 47-45 with 38 seconds left. 
 
Freshman guard Natalie Jens hit a three-pointer with 5:33 left to bring MSUM within 53-51, but CSP's Jadyn Hanson scored the next seven points to push the lead to 60-51 with 2:19 left.
 
A McKeever three brought MSUM within seven with 42 seconds left but the Dragons got no closer. CSP was a perfect 10-of-10 from the foul line in the final 1:19.
 
Jens had nine points for MSUM.
 
The Dragons are back on the road next weekend, starting on Friday at Minnesota Duluth.
