MOORHEAD, Minn. -- After a dogfight in the first half, the Dragon soccer team dropped their final home contest 2-1 to Minnesota Duluth.
The Dragon defenders helped stave off the Bulldog offensive attack in the first half with goalkeeper
Simone Lewald saving two shots. Those were two of Minnesota Duluth's five shots in the first half. That feisty Dragon defense was able to get in between Minnesota Duluth's other three shot attempts. On the other side, MSUM was able to get off two shots by
Madeline Etter and
Jensen Seidel with both shots being on goal. The Dragons were unable to put either in the net. After 45 minutes, the two teams were stuck in a defensive battle at 0-0.

The Dragons controlled the offensive pace early into the second half. This included a shot on goal for
Ava Kieser, which was saved by Bulldog goalkeeper Jennifer Norris. Minnesota Duluth was able to notch a pair of goals within 50 seconds of one another. Erin Walpole scored on a corner from Eliana Marciano at 57:50. Less than a minute later, it was the senior Marciano who netted a free kick at 58:40.

MSUM was able to get on the scoreboard near the end of the match. Senior
Callyn Johnson was able to get a ball in net at the 89:58 mark. In the end, the final score favored the Bulldogs 2-1. The Dragons were able to get five shots on goal in the game.

The Dragons fall to 2-8-3 in the NSIC and 2-9-3 overall.

Today was MSUM's final home match of the season. They will see action again on Sunday as they hit the road to face St. Cloud State at 3 p.m.
