MOORHEAD, Minn. -- On Senior Night in Nemzek Fieldhouse, the Dragon volleyball team fell in four sets to a talented St. Cloud State squad.
On a night where
Bob Jones and his volleyball program honored its five seniors, the energy inside Nemzek Fieldhouse was palpable. Especially given that the 19-5 St. Cloud State Huskies were in town.
Set Breakdowns
Set 1
St. Cloud: 25
MSUM: 16
The Huskies were quick on the attack in the opening frame putting 13 kills down on 28 total attacks. Kenzie Foley had five kills in the set and St. Cloud State was able to block four Dragon shots. On the other side, MSUM was led on defense thanks to blocks by
Emily Skalicky and
Abby Thompson.
Set 2
St. Cloud: 25
MSUM: 15
Once again, St. Cloud State was able to command much of the set thanks to their offensive aggressiveness. Foley notched another four kills in the set while the Huskies as a team hit .317 in the second frame.
Bridget Witzmann had three kills in the set to lead MSUM offensively.
Set 3
St. Cloud: 21
MSUM: 25
The Dragons controlled much of the energy in a deciding third set. Much like Tuesday evening against Northern State, the Dragons were able to play their best with their backs against the wall. Witzmann had three kills in the set while
Abby Thompson had four kills of her own. The Dragons were stingy defensively in this set, blocking five shots. Two of those blocks were thanks to
Teeya Doppler while
Amanda Carlson blocked a shot as well.
The third set had seven ties and four lead changes throughout.
Set 4
St. Cloud: 25
MSUM: 18
A set that saw MSUM gain an early lead over the Huskies quickly turned into a neck and neck battle. However, St. Cloud State commanded the closing stages of the set and took the set and match by winning the final frame 25-18.
Top Dragons
Bridget Witzmann: Nine kills, three service aces
Tori Thompson: Seven kills, one service ace and one block single
