ABERDEEN, S.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team fell to Northern State, 25-14, 25-15, 25-8 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Tuesday night in Aberdeen, S.D.
MSUM fell to 5-12 overall and 2-7 in the NSIC with the loss while Northern State improved to 10-7 overall and 5-4 in the league.
Junior middle blocker Tori Thompson had seven kills for MSUM while junior outside hitter Bridget Witzmann had five kills and a team-best 11 digs.
Freshman setter Emily Skalicky had 15 assists while sophomore outside hitter Jadyn Feist had a solo block. Freshman libero Macie Wieman had eight digs.
The Wolves hit .370 for the match compared to .112 for the Dragons.
In the first set MSUM faced a 10-3 deficit but scored four in a row — which included a kill and service ace from Witzmann — to cut the lead to 10-7. The Wolves would score the next six points to break the set open on their way to a 25-14 win.
The Dragons were within 11-8 in the second set after a service ace from freshman Emily McPhee but the Wolves pulled away to a 25-15 win. They carried that momentum into a convincing third set win as well.
MSUM will host Augustana on Friday night at 6 p.m.
