MOORHEAD, Minn. — Augustana swept the Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team on Friday, topping the Dragons by scores of 25-19, 25-14, 25-19 in Moorhead, Minn.
Augustana improved to 13-5 overall and 5-5 in the league with the win while the Dragons fell to 5-13 overall and 2-8 in the league.
Junior middle blocker Tori Thompson had 10 kills for MSUM while junior outside hitter Bridget Witzmann had nine. Freshman setter Emily Skalicky had 15 set assists.
Witzmann had two service aces to go with eight digs. Freshman libero Macie Wieman had 13 digs.
Sophomore middle blocker Abby Thompson had three solo blocks and one assist. Senior Elise Bakke had two solo blocks and two assists.
MSUM hit .083 for the match compared to .240 for the Vikings, who have won 11 straight meetings in the series.
The Dragons cut a 19-12 deficit to 19-15 in the opening set, thanks to two kills and a block assist from Tori Thompson, but got no closer and fell 25-19.
MSUM led in the second set 6-5 thanks to a pair of Augustana errors, and were tied at 10-10 after a Tori Thompson kill, but couldn't sustain the momentum. Witzmann's ace brought the Dragons within 15-13 but the Vikings scored five in a row to pull away on their way to a 25-14 win.
Bakke and sophomore outside hitter Jadyn Feist teamed up for a block to give MSUM a 9-7 lead in the third set but it didn't last as the Vikings scored the next three points. The Vikings would pull away late on their way to a 25-19 win.
The Dragons will host No. 1 Wayne State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
