MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team was swept by No. 1 and unbeaten Wayne State, 25-15, 25-9, 25-14 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM fell to 5-14 overall and 2-9 in the NSIC with the loss while Wayne State improved to 21-0 and 11-0 in the league.
Freshman setter Emily Skalicky had 26 assists for the Dragons while freshman libero Macie Wieman had 18 digs.
Junior outside hitter Bridget Witzmann had nine kills, 13 digs and a block assist. Junior right-side hitter Teeya Doppler had seven kills while junior middle blocker Tori Thompson had six.
Wayne State hit .322 for the match compared to .117 for the Dragons.
A Witzmann kill tied the first set at 5-5 but the Wildcats scored the next five points to build a 10-5 lead on their way to a 25-15 win. Wayne State dominated the second set, building an 18-4 lead on its way to a 25-9 win, The Wildcats also controlled the third set 25-14.
Junior defensive specialist Brooke Walthall had 11 digs for MSUM, which is at Southwest Minnesota State for its next action on Oct. 14.
