ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team picked up a 3-1 win over Mayville State in nonconference softball Saturday in Aberdeen, S.D. The Dragons settled for a split on the day as they fell to Valley City State, 5-0 in the evening.
The Dragons are now 1-3. The win over Mayville State was the first collegiate head coaching win for first-year MSUM head coach

Against Mayville, junior left fielder
Kiley Washnieski was 2-for-3 with a run scored while freshman third baseman
Ella Holiman was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Senior center fielder
Shay Weber had an RBI while senior first baseman

Hannah Losee had hits.
Senior
Anna Lang picked up her first win on the mound, giving up just one run in 4.1 innings. She struck out two and walked one. Sophomore
Evey Evans picked up the save, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings while striking out two.
MSUM was down 1-0 in the game but scored twice in the fourth. Holiman drove in Washnieski with an RBI single while Losee scored on a double play by Weber.
Weber's sacrifice fly, which scored Steffen, added a key insurance run in the sixth for MSUM.
Against Valley City State, MSUM managed just two hits – singles from Norman and sophomore pitcher
Reece Dahl.
Steffen took the loss for MSUM, giving up two earned runs in two innings. Freshman
Emma Abbott pitched two innings of relief and allowed three runs in two innings, while Dahl finished up with two scoreless innings for MSUM.
The Dragons are at the Rosemont Dome Tournament in Illinois on Feb. 24-26. The Dragons will face Grand Valley State on Thursday to open play.
