LEBANON, Ill. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team dropped a nonconference doubleheader to McKendree on Tuesday, losing by scores of 10-0 and 8-7 in Lebanon, Ill.
MSUM fell to 2-8 on the nonconference season. McKendree improved to 9-11.
MSUM managed one hit in the opener – a double by freshman right fielder
Avery Steffen – again McKendree starter Ellie Quaethem.
Senior pitcher
Anna Lang took the loss, giving up five earned runs in two innings. She struck out two. Freshman
Emma Abbott allowed only one earned run in three innings while sophomore
Reece Dahl allowed four earned runs in 0.1 inning.
In the second game, MSUM warmed up for 10 hits. Junior left fielder
Kiley Washnieski was 3-for-3 with a career-high five RBI. Freshman right fielder
Hannah Losee was 2-for-4 with and RBI while freshman shortstop
Annika Norman was 2-for-4. Senior center fielder
Shay Weber, freshman second baseman
Eliyah McCarthy and sophomore catcher
Jessie Undem had hits. Undem had a double.
Sophomore pitcher
Evey Evans had an RBI.
Steffen took the loss for MSUM, giving up two earned runs in five innings. Evans allowed six runs in 1.1 innings but only one was earned.
MSUM built a 5-1 lead after four innings, but a six-run fifth inning by McKendree scored six times in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead. The Dragons battled back to score twice in the top of the seventh as Washnieski's RBI single scored two.
McKendree scored a run in the bottom of the seventh off of Steffen to secure the win.
MSUM faces Missouri S and T at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in Rolla, Mo.
