SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead was swept in a nonconference doubleheader by Illinois-Springfield on Thursday. The Dragons lost 8-0 in five innings and 5-1.
In the opener, MSUM was held without a hit. Sophomore designated player
Evey Evans reached on a walk.
Senior
Anna Lang gave up six runs, five earned, in 2.2 innings. She struck out one and walked two. Sophomore
Reece Dahl gave up two runs in 1.1 innings.
In the second game, MSUM had four hits, led by freshman right fielder
Avery Steffen with a 2-for-3 effort; she had a double and an RBI. Senior first baseman
Jordey Smith was 1-for-3 with a run scored while freshman second baseman
Eliyah McCarthy was 1-for-4.
Freshman
Emma Abbott took the loss for MSUM, giving up five runs, three earned, in four innings. Evans pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two.
Steffen's RBI double in the fourth scored Smith with MSUM's only run.
MSUM is scheduled to play at Mayville State on Tuesday.
