BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Minnesota State University Moorhead sophomore
Travis Joseph has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Newcomer of the Year in men's track and field, the league announced on Wednesday. In addition, Dragon jumps /sprints coach
Trevor Barry was named the NSIC Assistant Coach of the Year.
Joseph won the high jump at the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday with a jump of 6-11. He is a national qualifier in the high jump after tying a school record of 7-0 1/2 earlier this season.
Joseph won the high jump four times during the indoor season and will compete at nationals on March 12 in Pittsburg, Kan.
A multi-time Olympian, Barry coached three NSIC champions at last week's conference meet. Junior
Shyrone Kemp won the long jump and triple jump events while Joseph won the high jump. In addition, senior
Chris Cook was runner-up in the high jump to earn All-NSIC honors. Kemp and Joseph will compete at the NCAA indoor championships on March 11-12. He also coached 400-meter national qualifier
Ty Dawkins who picked up three All-NSIC honors.
