SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team dropped a pair of games to the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday, falling 7-2 and 8-7 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
In the opener, junior left fielder
Kiley Washnieski was 1-for-3 with a run scored while freshman first baseman Piper Mckibbin had a double. Sophomore desginated hitter
Evey Evans, freshman second baseman
Hannah Losee, freshman third baseman
Avery Steffen and freshman shortstop
Annika Norman also had hits for MSUM.
Senior
Anna Lang took the loss for MSUM giving up six earned runs in two innings. She struck out one. Freshman
Emma Abbott pitched well in relief, giving up one earned run in four innings. She struck out one.
Both of MSUM's runs scored on an error at third off of a grounder from senior center fielder
Jordey Smith.
Game 2 saw MSUM battle back from a 7-4 deficit to tie the game at 7-7 in the seventh. Sioux Falls scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Losee was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI for MSUM while McKibbin was 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Norman was 2-for-4 with a run scored while Evans, freshman right fielder
Eliyah McCarthy and freshman third baseman
Ella Holiman had hits.
Sophomore pitcher
Reece Dahl took the loss for MSUM, giving up eight earned runs in six innings. She struck out one. Evans finished the game but did not record an out.
MSUM took a 4-2 lead in the second on Losee's three-run double. Sioux Falls scored the next five runs to take a 7-4 lead.
The Dragons scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to cut the gap to 6-6, and McCarthy hit an RBI single in the seventh to tie the game.
MSUM plays at Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday with the doubleheader beginning at noon.
