SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- MSU Moorhead soccer fell victim to a pair of early Augustana goals on Friday evening as the Vikings claimed a 3-0 win over the Dragons in NSIC play.
The home club would strike almost immediately, as Augustana put a shot on goal in the second minute that found net. Paige Bracker connected on a shot with an assist from Hope Korte as the Vikings gained a 1-0 advantage 156 seconds into the match. It would not take long for Augustana to build on their one-goal lead as Annika Bard scored 14 minutes later to put the Vikings up 2-0. Augustana would manage 14 shots in the first 45 minutes compared to MSUM's two.
Ava Kieser and
Jensen Seidel would register shots for the Dragons in the period.
Simone Lewald would save three shots in the first half and faced eight Augie corner kick chances as well.
In the second half, Augustana would impose themselves defensively, as MSUM would not get a shot off in the half. The Vikings would put the finishing touches on the contest in the 68th minute as Grace Douglas scored on as assist from Delaney Kost. Augie tallied nine shots in the second half and six corner kick opportunities. Lewald would make four saves in the final 45 minutes for MSUM.Â
With her seven saves in the match, Lewald has now moved into the top ten in school history in career saves. Her 164 career stops are now the 10th-most in program history.
