MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead tennis wraps up their fall season with a pair of match-ups against Concordia College and the University of Mary. The first dual will be against the Cobbers at 9 a.m. on Sunday from Concordia's campus.
The Dragons last competed at the Gustavus Adolphus Fall Invitational with several from MSUM picking up wins in the early season. Senior
Shaelyn Johnson grabbed a pair of singles wins at the tournament while Johnson and doubles partner
Claire Nemmers also collected two wins as a pair. Nemmers won two of her first three singles matches to get her season started on the right foot. The doubles pairing of
Madison Bell and
Tiannah Gu also picked up a win at the tournament while Gu was entrenched in three marathon singles matches.
True freshman
Katryna Hansen grabbed her first collegiate singles win to close the invitational, while Hansen and partner
Lakia Manska narrowly fell in doubles play. Other teams in attendance at the Gustavus Adolphus Invitational included the host school as well as NSIC foes Mary, Sioux Falls and Minnesota State.
Last season saw Mary take a conference dual from the Dragons, 5-2 with Bell and Nemmers gaining singles victories in the contest. MSUM has not beaten the Marauders in dual play since March 13, 2021 where the Dragons won 5-2 thanks to five singles wins. Currently, MSUM has a seven-dual win streak over Concordia College, taking the most recent matchup 7-0 on February 17, 2023. In that dual, the Dragons won all but one doubles match across the entire tilt. The last time the Cobbers beat the Dragons was a 6-3 affair on April 14, 2012.
