MARSHALL, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead swimming & diving worked to a grueling 161-138 dual win over Southwest Minnesota State on Friday afternoon. The Dragons earned their sixth dual win of the season.
The win becomes the most dual wins for the program since the 2017-18 season and is the most in
Charlie King's tenure as head coach.
Isabelle Johnson led off the day for the Dragons in 1M diving, as she would grab an event win thanks to a score of 210.15.
Zoe Bjerke (193.43) and
Ruth Guy (187.88) would place second and third respectively for MSUM. Bjerke would grab the first event win of her collegiate career in 3M diving later in the day with a score of 205.50. Guy and Johnson would finish just behind Bjerke in the event.Â
Ruth Pavelski only continued to showcase her talents, adding three more event wins to her total for the season. The freshman won both the 100-yard and 200-yard fly races with times of 59.66 and 2:17.56. Pavelski also won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:17.05.
In relay action, MSUM would conclude the meet with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle. The squad of
Sophia Verke,
Taylor Cook,
Maggie Moore and
Demi-Lee Carlisle would win with a time of 3:42.01. In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of
Kelsey Jackson,
Linnea Edgren,
Ruth Pavelski and Carlisle would finish runner-up with a mark of 1:52.31.
Cami Mayo would have a strong day in distance swimming for the Dragons, picking up a win in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:14.11. Mayo would also finish runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 5:29.39. The true freshman also placed runner-up in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:18.13.
Continuing in freestyle swimming,
Sophia Verke continued to prove why the 200-yard is her top event, winning with a time of 1:59.53 as she was the only competitor to clock a sub-two minute mark.
Maggie Moore would finish just behind Verke, swimming a 2:00.64.Verke would also place runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle with a time fo 25.30. The Dragons would command places two through six in that race as Carlisle, Cook, Moore and
Lily Lengerich would come in right behind Verke. The trio of Verke (55.13), Moore (1:17.92) and Lengerich (1:19) would finish second, third and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle as well.Â
In the backstroke,
Kelsey Jackson took home an event win the 200-yard with a mark of 2:12.19 as
Joanna Phillips would finish fourth in the race with a 2:24.56 finish. Jackson would also finish runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.26 with Carlisle and Phillips finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
Linnea Edgren would finish second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.09 as the junior would also place third in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:41.66. Edgren also finished fourth in the 200-yard IM with a mark of 2:23.79
