ABERDEEN, S.D. – MSUM scored 32 runs over two games in the opening contests of the PC Dome Tournament #2. The Dragons defeated the College of Saint Mary 20-3 before beating Valley City State 12-3 to close their Friday.
In the two wins, 15 different MSUM players had RBIs with the Dragons stealing 10 total bases across the games.
Dragons 20, Flames 3
Lizzy Davis opened the scoring for the Dragons with an RBI double in the first inning that drove in
Evey Evans. MSUM would go on to plate seven more runs in the top of the first inning.
Azalya Lopez,
Annika Norman,
Avery Steffen and
Evey Evans all drove in runs for the Dragons. Davis and Evans each drove in two runs each.
MSUM would explode once again in the top of the third inning by scoring nine more runs to bring their lead to 17-0. Davis drove in two more runs on a single to get the scoring started. The Dragons would bring eight more runners in with seven of those runs coming on the back of singles. By game's end, 10 different Dragons had driven runs in. MSUM would score three more runs in the top of the fourth inning as well to fully put the game on ice. Davis led the Dragons, going two for three with four RBIs.
Ella Holiman went a perfect two of two in the game while
Annika Norman went a flawless four for four with three RBIs.
Emma Abbott pitched four strong innings in the circle, surrendering two hits and three earned runs. Abbott struck out a batter and only walked two Flames in the game.
Avery Steffen would finish the game for the Dragons, giving up one hit and fanning one Flame in an inning of work.
Dragons 12, Vikings 3
With the first inning going scoreless, MSUM would jump on the board first as
Avery Steffen doubled to drive in
Jordey Brown-Smith and
Eliya Johnson. Steffen would continue her great day by homering in the fifth inning. The bomb drove in three runs for MSUM in Brown-Smith and
Annika Norman. The Dragons would score four more runs in the frame bringing the lead to 9-1.
Azalya Lopez would drive in another run in the sixth before Brown-Smith doubled to score Lopez and Johnson. The Dragons were also shifty on the basepaths, stealing seven bases in the game. Lopez, Steffen and
Reece Dahl all split time in the circle during the game. The trio gave up six hits, three runs and struck out five Vikings between them.

MSUM (6-0) is back inside the PC Dome tomorrow morning for a 10 a.m. game with Doane. The Dragons will finish the tournament with the University of Jamestown at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
