Dragons Lose Tough Battle to Bulldogs

VIRGINIA, Minn. – MSUM tennis fell in their final match of a three-match weekend to Minnesota Duluth. Embroiled in numerous close matches across the weekend, the Dragons fell 4-3 to the Bulldogs this afternoon.

MSUM would pick up the doubles points thanks to two wins from the teams of Shaelyn Johnson and Tia Dykema and the duo of Marissa Burian and Claire Nemmers. While the Dragons would pick up wins in number one and two singles, the Bulldogs would win four of the six singles matches to edge MSUM on the scoreboard. Dykema and Burian would end up in hard-fought three set battles that eventually did not go either's way. Madison Bell would also fall in three sets to Duluth's Olivia Honsey.

Johnson continued her strong weekend, winning in doubles and defeating Shay Callaway in straight sets. Johnson finished the weekend undefeated across singles and doubles action. Tiannah Gu did the same in singles action winning 6-3, 6-4 over Duluth's Megan Muller.
