Dragons Collect 6-1 Victory over Golden Eagles

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- MSU Moorhead secured the team doubles point and five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over Minnesota Crookston on Saturday afternoon.

MSUM moved to 6-9 in the dual season and snapped a six-match losing streak with the win in Grand Forks.

The Dragons would take home the team doubles point thanks to a pair of wins in the number one and number three spots. The team of Shaelyn Johnson and Tia Dykema moved into the number one position for today's match and came out with a decisive 6-0 win. Marissa Burian and Claire Nemmers would pick up a 6-3 win over Crookston's Tasha Achermann and Michelle Swyter to swing the point in MSUM's favor.

MSUM would not look back from there, taking home five of six singles matches. Both Dykema and Tiannah Gu collected convincing straight set victories as Gu picked up her ninth singles win of the year. Madison Bell would also win in straight sets, winning the first set over Ashley Chomyn 6-0 before a second set battle would ensue. Bell would win 7-5 in a set that went to a tiebreaker in which Bell won.

Marissa Burian would gather her sixth singles win of the year with a straight sets win over Michelle Swyter. Perhaps the highlight of the day was the gritty performance of Claire Nemmers. The true freshman needed three sets to grab her singles win over Crookston's Sarah Velasquez. Nemmers dropped the first set 6-4 before winning the second set 6-4. She would then take the deciding third set 10-5 for her fifth singles win of the year.
