MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead tallied 19 hits and exploited nine Mary errors as the Dragons moved to 11-1 in NSIC play with a doubleheader sweep of the Marauders on Wednesday afternoon.
MSUM took game one 8-6 thanks to some apt hitting in the latter innings before cruising to a 10-1 win in six innings in game two. The games were initially scheduled for Bismarck, N.D., but were moved to Moorhead with the intent of playing outdoors. Due to NSIC site reversal regulations, the Marauders retained home team privleges.Â
Game One
Â
The Dragons would find themselves playing from behind for most of the first game as Mary would quickly plate two runs on a homer and a double in the bottom of the second inning. MSUM would knot the game in the top of the fourth inning thanks to an
Annika Norman RBI groundout that scored
Azalya Lopez. Mary would jump back on top in the next half inning on a Dragon throwing error on a stolen base.
Mack Gallagher would even the score once again in the fifth with her ninth home run of the season. The dinger ties Gallagher for the most home runs in a single season in school history and by day's end, she sits three RBIs short of the single-season record as well.Â
Mary would once again take the lead on an MSUM error in the bottom of the fifth. Leading 4-3, the Marauders had the Dragons up against the wall heading into the sixth inning. In the frame, the Dragon bats came alive thanks to a single from
Evey Evans, which scored two runs to give MSUM a 5-4 advantage. Gallagher would pick up her second RBI of the day later in the inning as the Dragons plated three more runs to take a commanding 8-4 lead. While Evans would come on in relief and surrender a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, Mary was unable to put anything else together. MSUMÂ took game one 8-6 with
Avery Steffen picking up the win following a solid two inning stretch where she struck out three Marauders.Â

Game Two
'
With their bats hot from game one, MSUM would pour it on in game two, but would do so by taking advantage of multiple Marauder fielding blunders. Mary had three errors in the first frame alone with all four Dragon runs being unearned. MSUM would score another run in the second on yet another Mary error to bring the score to 5-0 early in the contest. The Marauders would draw closer in the third on an RBI single, but it would be the only offense the Marauders could muster. Gallagher and Lopez would collect RBIs in the fourth inning to push the Dragons in front 7-1.
Eliyah McCarthy would pinch hit for
Teagan Pranchke in the top of the fifth and bring around a run thanks to an RBI double, scoring
Jordey Smith. Smith and
Eliya Johnson would drive in two more runs for MSUM in the top of the sixth to move the score to 10-1.Â
Mary would be unable to answer in the bottom of the sixth, as the Dragons closed the game early with a 10-1 win in six innings.
Kaelyn Leverson picked up her second win of the season and started in the circle for MSUM. Leverson surrendered three hits and the lone Marauder run. From there, the trio of
Reece Dahl,
Avery Steffen and
Evey Evans would combine to only give up two hits while striking out two Marauders to keep the Mary offense at bay for the remainder of the game.Â
