MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team will compete in their final two regular season games for the 2023 season. First, the Dragons will travel to Winona, Minn., to compete against Winona State University at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday. Then, the Dragons will travel to Fayette, Iowa, to battle against Upper Iowa University at noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday this weekend.
The Dragons are 28-12 on the regular season and 16-6 against NSIC opponents after defeating Concordia St. Paul twice and splitting their doubleheader against MSU Mankato last weekend. Most recently, MSUM split their final home series with Minot State on Tuesday. Freshman
Mack Gallagher leads the team with a team-best batting average of .435, followed by sophomore
Avery Steffen with a batting average of .394. Gallagher also leads the Dragons in home runs with 10, followed by junior
Evey Evans who adds six home runs.
Mike Armitage is in his second season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
About Winona State
The Warriors are 33-14 on the regular season and 16-6 against NSIC opponents after defeating the University of Mary twice and splitting their doubleheader against Minot State last weekend. On Tuesday of this week, Winona State was swept by Minnesota State. Junior Abbie Hlas leads the team with a team-best batting average of .398, followed closely by freshman Savannah Serdynski with a batting average of .378. Greg Jones is in his 23rd season as head coach at Winona State University.
About Upper Iowa
The Peacocks are 15-26 on the regular season and 7-16 against NSIC opponents after splitting their doubleheader against the University of Mary and falling to Minot State twice last weekend. The Peacocks were swept by Concordia-St. Paul on Tuesday of this week. Junior Laila Pelds leads the team with a team-best batting average of .391, followed closely by junior Ari Charles with a batting average of .375. Upper Iowa will battle Northern State on Saturday before playing the Dragons. Laura North is in her first season as head coach at Upper Iowa University.
