MOORHEAD, Minn. – MSU Moorhead has completed their fall friendly series in preparation for the 2023 regular season. In three exhibition contests, the Dragons went 2-1 and would outscore opponents 6-2.
MSUM opened play with the University of Jamestown on August 17, winning 4-0 before traveling to Grand Forks for a match-up with North Dakota. The Fighting Hawks would take the contest 2-0 before MSUM rebounded on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Concordia College.
Dragons 4, Jimmies 0
MSUM would jump on the board early in the match thanks to a free kick strike from
Tabea Czech in the second minute. This came thanks to a Jimmie yellow card just outside of the box. The Dragons would continue to roll in the first half as NSIC preseason player to watch
Jensen Seidel would find net in the 17
th minute thanks to an assist from
Lilly Johnson.
Before the half break, it would be
Allison Tharp who would place MSUM up 3-0 with a strike that found the back of the net. Freshman
Hannah Johnson found Tharp for the goal to give the Dragons a bigger advantage through 45 minutes.
MSUM would put the finishing touches on the match thanks to a goal from
Ally Peters in the 50
th minute to take a 4-0 advantage. From there, the Dragons would hold the Jimmies scoreless thanks an aggressive defensive effort.
Dragons 0, Fighting Hawks 2
In their competition with NCAA Division I North Dakota, the Dragons would rely on defense to keep the score even through the first half.
Simone Lewald would collect a pair of saves to keep the game even before the Fighting Hawks found the net late in the 69
th minute.
UND would score once again in the 80
th minute to put the game out of reach for MSUM. The Fighting Hawks would take the match 2-0 thanks to eight shots on goal and 27 shots total.
Dragons 2, Cobbers 0
The Dragons and Cobbers would work to a first-half tie with neither team able to find the net. The goalkeeper tandem of
Morgan Valvo and
Simone Lewald would stop a handful of Cobber shots while freshman
Lindsey Erickson came close to giving MSUM an advantage late in the first half. Her shot on goal was missing just a dash of power to make it past the Concordia keeper.
It would take the Dragons until the 53
rd minute to score as
Keely Johnston would fire in a free kick that was juggled by Concordia goalkeeper Kaitlin Petrich. True freshman forward
Izabela Flores would take advantage as the ball staggered from Petrich's grip as Flores knocked the ball in to break the scoreless tie.
MSUM goalkepper
Quinn Carter held that score in check despite the Cobbers working the ball towards the Dragon net. Carter collected three critical saves midway through the second half to keep MSUM up by one goal.
Jensen Seidel would snag the vital insurance goal in the 84
th minute as the sophomore would strike a ball to the net from just outside the box. It was Seidel's second goal of the exhibition season.
