MOORHEAD, Minn. – MSU Moorhead soccer would showcase their aggression in the final 45 minutes, but were unable to register an equalizing goal in their first game of NSIC play. The Dragons fell 1-0 to Northern State on Friday afternoon.
The first 10 minutes resulted in a back and forth possession battle between both squads. A shot off the foot of
Brooklyn Broderick late in the ninth minute would be the first shot of the match. Northern State had two tremendous opportunities at a goal in the 11
th and 13
th minutes with one being blocked by
Morgan Bachelor and the other saved by
Simone Lewald.
The Wolves would jump on the scoreboard in the 19
th minute with a strike from Megan Fastenau. The ball was struck high and just made it over the outstretched arms of Dragon goalkeeper
Simone Lewald. In total, Northern State had seven total shots with four being registered on goal. Fastenau's goal was the difference in the first period as the Wolves carried that lead into halftime. MSUM did not have a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.
Northern State would continue to hang onto the lead in the second half as MSUM would register two shots after 30 minutes of the second half. Although, the Dragons did take hold of the possession battle early in the frame. MSUM would put their lone shot on goal in the game in the 78th minute as
Marin Hensley would strike one to the left side of the net that was saved by Northern keeper Alexus Townsend. Nortern State would come close to taking a 2-0 lead late in the contest with the Dragon defense standing tall. However, MSUM would be unable to score the equalizing goal.

MSUM (1-4, 0-1 NSIC) is back on the road for their second trip to Bismarck, North Dakota this season. The Dragons will play an NSIC match with Mary on Sunday at 1 p.m.
