Stern Defensive Effort Leads to Scoreless Tie Between Dragons and Marauders

BISMARCK, N.D. – A stern Dragon defense and a solid performance from Simone Lewald highlighted the day for MSU Moorhead soccer against Mary. The Dragons and Marauders finished the game scoreless.

Jensen Seidel would get the first Dragon shot off in the fifth minute as she fired off a kick from inside the box that missed high. MSUM would have a pair of chances in the 17th minute as Tabea Czech would put a shot on goal from the right side that was saved by Mary goalkeeper Moly Fischer. Ava Keiser would launch another shot 10 seconds later from the top of the box that missed high.

On the other end, Mary would get six shots off in the first 25 minutes with just two landing on goal. MSUM goalkeeper Simone Lewald would make two solid saves while the Dragon defense would manage to block a Marauder shot from inside the box. Czech and Madeline Etter would get shots off in the 31st minute with Czech's missing high. Etter's shot was blocked as that would be the final Dragon shot of the half.

Mary would only manage two more shots, one being on goal, throughout the remainder of the half. Lewald would make a save on a Tara Young shot just before the half as both squads would enter the half scoreless.

Lewald would continue to keep the game scoreless as she would stop three Mary shots on goal in the first 30 minutes of the second half. The Marauders also saw a shot bounce off the left post in the 55th minute to keep the game gridlocked. MSUM did not manage a shot in that same span. The Dragon defense would continue to stand strong, blocking a Marauder shot from the top of the box in the 80th minute.

The Dragons had their best chance with time waning in the second half as the Marauders lost possession on a free kick. MSUM's offense sprinted ahead as Mary keeper Molly Fischer was playing out from the net. The ball ended up on the foot of Ava Kieser, who ended up in a footrace to the goal with Fischer. Kieser got off a shot that missed left as Mary earned a goal kick with just seven seconds remaining.
