Dragons Let One Slip Away Against Golden Eagles

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead women's basketball possessed another second half lead of 10 or more points, but ended up falling to visiting Minnesota Crookston on Saturday. The Golden Eagles topped the Dragons, 64-63.

  • Tori Ratz would jumpstart the MSUM offense with a pair of threes in the first quarter.
  • The Dragons trailed by one point after one frame after Abby Berge connected on a three-pointer late in the period. 
  • Trailing by one point, MSUM would race out on a 17-0 run to begin the second quarter. 
  • Ratz connected on another pair of threes in the flurry while Adie Wagner netted a triple, followed by a driving lay-in. 
  • MSUM outscored Minnesota Crookston 21-7 in the quarter overall to lead 40-27 at halftime. 
  • The Dragons would build a lead as large as 15 points early in the third quarter before the Golden Eagles responded. 
  • Minnesota Crookston rattled off an 11-0 run to pull the score within four points (46-42). 
  • The Golden Eagles would trail by three points (50-47) after 30 minutes, outscoring the Dragons, 20-10, in the frame.
  • Early in the final quarter, the teams would be tied at 51 points before Ashton Safranski drilled a triple. 
  • Minnesota Crookston star guard Emma Miller would come back with an individual 9-0 run, putting UMC up 60-54. 
  • The Golden Eagles would lead be eight points with less than two minutes to go before the Dragons made one final push.
  • Ratz would hit a three, followed by another Safranski triple to pull MSUM within two points. 
  • MSUM would have an opportunity to tie at the free throw line with a second to play, but would only convert on one of two attempts. 
  • Ratz led the scoring with 15 points while Terryn Johnson notched another double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

MSUM (6-6, 4-2 NSIC) will return from the Holiday break for games with Concordia, St. Paul and Minnesota Duluth. The Dragons host the Golden Bears on Friday, January 3 at 5:30 p.m.
