Bruer Claims Another Record, MSUM Sturdy at SDSU Indoor Classic

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Braxton Bruer reset the MSUM indoor 600m school record while a host of Dragons registered fresh personal records at the SDSU Indoor Classic.
 
Sprints/Relays
 
Ibrahim Oduong won the men's 400m race with a finishing time of 47.63, his second 400m event win of the indoor season. In the women's 60m dash, Shavantae Roberts qualified for the finals heat with a 7.71 preliminary time. Roberts would finish fourth in the finals with a 7.73 mark. Roberts would clock a new personal best in the 200m dash later in the day with a time of 25.17 to finish seventh overall. The dash is the fourth-fastest indoor 200m in school history.
 
Jerome Crayton would finish 12th overall in the men's 200m with a time of 22.19. It is Crayton's second-best performance in the event this indoor season trailing his indoor personal best of 22.09 set at the UND Open. Elkan Johnson would also register a new indoor personal best with a time of 23.33.
 
Jumps/Vaults
 
In men's high jump, both Shyrone Kemp and Tyler Missick would have a top clearance of 6-06 (1.98m) to finish in a tie for second place. On the women's side, Desiree Loyd would compete for the first time this season in high jump and register a clearance of 5-02.25 (1.58m) to mark a new collegiate best. Loyd would finish in a tie for 13th place overall in the event. 
 
David Daniels would place fourth in men's long jump with a leap of 22-10.5 (6.97m). For Daniels, it is his second-best long jump performance of the season behind his personal best of 23-02.75 (7.08m). 
 
Throws
 
In women's shot put, freshmen Janae LaFerriere (33-03.75/10.15m) and Sam Azure (30-09/9.37m) would record personal bests in the event.
 
Distance
 
Braxton Bruer would collect another indoor school record on Saturday, smashing MSUM's all-time 600m mark. Bruer clocked a 1:18.52 to finish third overall, but the time bests the Dragon school record previously held by Keith Turner (1:20.11) set in 2015. 
 
On Friday, Abbie Christen clocked a finishing time of 19:44.45 in the 5000m run, an indoor personal best. In the men's 5000m, both Brett Kurschner (15:33.52) and Joel Brault (15:52.87) would record collegiate personal bests in their first time running the race indoors.
 
In the men's mile run on Saturday, Colin O'Farrell posted a new personal best of 4:16.22 to finish 20th overall. Grace Dorsher would record a personal best in the 1000m run with a time of 3:12.93.

MSUM will compete next at the final regular season meet of the indoor slate, the UND Tune-Up, on Saturday, February 17 beginning at noon.
