Dragons Travel to Illinois for Lewis Dome Tournament

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead softball will continue non-conference play this week as the Dragons travel to Rosemont, Ill., for the annual Lewis Dome Invitational. MSUM will play in six games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week.

Live stats and video for select games will be available at msumdragons.com

MSUM had the week off from competition last week after competing at the D2 Cactus Classic in Tucson, Ariz., February 8-11. The Dragons would go 1-3 at the tournament with three of their contest beings rained out and canceled. MSUM lost in matchups to San Francisco State, Nebraska-Kearney and Hawai'i-Hilo, but the Dragons did defeat San Francisco State, 4-2 at the tournament.

Azalya Lopez has been pivotal for the Dragons both in the circle and at the plate so far this season. Lopez leads the team with 21.1 innings pitched and a 2-2 overall record. The sophomore has a stingy 1.97 ERA so far this season and is holding opposing batters to a .253 average. Avery Steffen and Teagan Clemmons have taken a majority of the workload in the circle outside of Lopez this season. Steffen has tossed nine innings with 12 strikeouts while Clemmons has pitched 14 innings with 15 strikeouts. Lopez leads the team with 19 punchouts this year.

Lopez is second on the team to fellow sophomore Mack Gallagher in batting average this season. Gallagher holds a .429 average while Lopez is not far behind at .391 as both sophomores and senior Evey Evans lead the squad with six RBIs apiece. Lopez and Gallagher each have nine hits this season with Gallagher racking up a team-best four doubles.

Mike Armitage is in his third season as MSUM's head softball coach.
