Neither team would notch a hit in the game until the top of the second when Grand Valley State earned a triple on Dragon starter
Eliya Johnson. The senior would work out of the jam to keep the game scoreless. While the Dragons would not get a hit in the home half, Johnson would again work out of a tight spot in the third inning. With a Laker in scoring position with no out, Johnson would work out of the inning thanks to a fielder's choice and a pair of pop-ups.
Teagan Pranchke would get MSUM's first hit of the contest in the bottom of the third with a leadoff single. The Dragons would be unable to bring in a run despite the hit as both teams went run less in the fourth frame. MSUM had a runner on second with two outs following a single from
Olivia Goderis but were unable to push her across.
Grand Valley State would break the tie in the top of the fifth thanks to an RBI single off Johnson. Despite giving up the run, Johnson was solid in her first start of the year, hurling five innings and only surrendering a pair of hits with two strikeouts. MSUM would be unable to tie or take the lead in the home half.
It took until the bottom of the sixth inning before the Dragons came to life.
Azalya Lopez would give MSUM baserunner with no outs on a Laker error.
Mack Gallagher would step to the plate with one out and smash a double which drove Lopez in from first. The RBI tied the contest with one out and put another runner in scoring position for the Dragons.
Goderis would step in with two down and collect a single which scored pinch runner
Ella Holiman to give MSUM a 2-1 lead. In the final half inning,
Evey Evans would surrender a leadoff walk before working out three straight groundouts to seal the game for MSUM.
