MSUM Drops Road Match to Marauders, 6-1

MANDAN, N.D. -- MSU Moorhead tennis fell in road NSIC action to the University of Mary on Saturday afternoon. The Marauders defeated the Dragons, 6-1.

Mary would earn the team doubles point with a pair of tandem wins at the number two and number three spots. For MSUM, the team Luzmary Diaz Castillo and Shaelyn Johnson moved to 4-0 on the year with a 6-4 victory over Chloe Chong and Ilona Freitag. The Marauders led 1-0 following doubles play.

The Dragons would earn their first team point thanks to Castillo, who won a daunting number one singles bout over Chong. Castillo won the first set 6-3 before falling in the second set to Chong, 6-1. In a marathon third set, Castillo would turn in a gritty effort to defeat Chong 12-10. Mary would claim the number two through six positions in singles play to win the match 6-1. Both Tiannah Gu and Madison Bell battled in their first sets of singles action, but would eventuall fall in straight sets to Freitag and Estinvil, respectively.
